Far North Queensland, QLD.

Far North Queensland is the northernmost part of Queensland with its largest city being Cairns. It’s indigenous history is as rich as the land itself. Water is abundant, as demonstrated by the large number of waterfalls and gorges on display, both close to the coast and in the Atherton Tablelands. There were two main groups of Indigenous Australians living in this area before colonialism: the Yirrganydji and the Yidinji. They were hunter gatherers during the dry season, but lived more semi-permanently during the wet. Each year the tribes would meet in what is now named Palm Cove to trade and conduct business.
